Abstract

Italian stone pine was introduced in the coastal area of Rome during the XVIII century and widely used for the afforestation of reclaimed lands since the end of the the XIX century on. Stand structure and dynamics of such pine forests were analized in 23 sample plots and four main types were described. Management objectives and means were proposed in order to preserve the pine forests and defend their role in contrasting the intensive and chaotic expansion of the suburbs of the city
